Uplift occurs when the soil swells during the rainy season and can put pressure on the piers to move upward. The bell bottom part of the pier serves to ‘anchor’ the pier into the more stable areas of the soil.
Bell Bottom Piers are a great method for anchoring a new foundation if they are installed deep enough. A soil test can let you know how deep your piers need to be.
